Raul is his name and hunting bugs is his game. Meet Raul Verame, or RV, NeuroFlow’s QA Engineer.  As the sole member of the QA team, Raul serves a critical role of making sure that all the awesome features and enhancements our development team builds are error free and help ensure an amazing experience across both our clinician facing tool and end user mobile app.

Despite the serious nature of his job, RV makes sure to add some levity and cheer to the office. Whether he is crafting his emoji laden release announcements or helping the team learn a new Filipino phrase, RV is a prime example of a NeuroFlow employee who lifts others up and lives out the company values every single day. Check out our full interview below with RV!

Q: So tell us a bit about your path to QA engineer at NeuroFlow?
A: I used to work as a game tester for about three years, which was great as it combined my two passions of mine.  In that role, I also started to take on some manual testing for other web projects at the company. This was helpful because when I joined NeuroFlow, I manually tested the whole platform, web and mobile! Upon joining the team, I was also able to get some exposure to the world of test automation which was helpful as I progressed from QA Analyst to QA Engineer.

Q: What’s your favorite thing about working at NeuroFlow?
A:  Definitely the company culture. I love coming to work everyday knowing that my coworkers not only care about each other, but also about what we’re working on and the problem we’re working to solve around behavioral health. Everyone at the company is very keen on making sure we push ourselves to strive harder, to learn more skills, to become better team members, but doing so at our own pace and in a supportive, healthy manner.

Q: What are you most excited about for NeuroFlow in 2020?
A: Well I’m excited for the team to grow! We’ve released a ton of amazing features in 2019, and I’m super excited about what we’ll release in 2020. Plus, with having a bigger development, mobile, and QA team means the sky’s the limit for us this year!

Q: Exciting stuff indeed. Got any tips for recent graduates or newer developers looking to get into QA?
A: QA has always been regarded as a “boring” role. Even game testing! You do the same thing every day, test the same thing every day, or play the same level every day for days, weeks, or even months. But I love the detective nature of the work; discovering and reporting bugs or finding out why this or that happened. If you’re interested in lots of exploration but want to know the ins and outs of software, or see the big picture before it’s even released, then QA is definitely for you.

Q: You traveled quite a way to get to NeuroFlow HQ, what’s your favorite part of the city of brotherly love?
A: I like that Philly is busy, but not too busy. My favorite part of the city would be Chinatown. Easy access to asian food, asian groceries, and great bubble tea!

Q: You’ve always got a good joke handy, any new ones you want to share?
A: I heard one recently that gave me a nice laugh: How do you look for Will Smith in the snow? You look for “fresh prints”.
